Integrative Care Techniques
There are a wide range of techniques employed by our integrative care team
at Winchester Medical Center:
-
MusiCaregiving – We use therapeutic music in a live setting to facilitate peace
and healing for our patients. The musicians in our program volunteer their
time to provide the healing power of music to patients in need, as well
as their loved ones. We have found that MusiCaregiving benefits even unconscious
patients and patients in comas.
-
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – A molecular biologist named Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. created MBSR as
an effective stress relief method for patients who did not respond to
conventional options and medications. MBSR is a widely respected program
lasting eight weeks that utilizes the core principles of mindfulness,
meditation, and the practice of yoga.
-
Reiki therapy – Reiki specialists believe the flow of energy in the body can be
interrupted by sickness, trauma, and anxiety. Practitioners use touch
and energy guidance to minimize stress and pain in unique, individual sessions.
-
Animal assisted therapy (AAT) – Animal assisted therapy is a valuable form of therapy backed by
a growing body of research. Our therapy animals provide companionship,
helping patients increase their self-esteem, lower anxiety, reduce stress,
and improve blood pressure levels. Our AAT program has been in operation
since 1995.
-
Music therapy – Our music therapists have board certifications. They offer therapeutic
services using music to lower stress, pain, nausea, and anxiety and to
offer an emotional outlet.
-
Art therapy – Art therapy at Winchester Medical Center gives patients a new voice
with which to express their feelings and a new tool to work out their
problems. Art therapy increases relaxation. This form of therapy is about
the act of expression and creation, not any former training or ability.
