SuperKids Asthma Initiative
The SuperKids Asthma Initiative (SKAI), funded by Valley Health and Winchester
Medical Foundation and developed by a team of physicians, nurses, respiratory
therapists, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, provides education
and support to children with asthma and their families. The goal of the
SuperKids Asthma Initiative is to help children achieve their full potential
despite having asthma. The SKAI Toolbox is a resource for children with
asthma and their parents. The contents of the toolbox reinforce the education
received from physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare
professionals. The toolboxes are provided to children being discharged
from Winchester Medical Center.

Bronchial Thermoplasty
One of the services we provide in order to treat asthma is called Bronchial
Thermoplasty. In this procedure, we deliver heat to the airway walls in
the lungs. The heat limits the muscles’ ability to constrict the
airways. This treatment is for patients diagnosed with severe persistent
asthma that is not well-controlled by inhaled corticosteroids or long-acting
beta agnostics. In addition, this treatment is only for patients over
the age of 18 and not for patients who have electronic implants, problems
taking certain medicines or previous Bronchial Thermoplasty treatments.
