Prevention & Education
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer in America. Unlike most diseases,
cardiovascular disease is controllable and preventable. The key is proper
education and awareness of what to do to reduce our risks. At Valley Health
we are working each and every day to identify people with risk factors
for heart disease and teach them how to live a healthier lifestyle before
a true emergency occurs. Believe it or not, you have the power to significantly
reduce your risk of developing heart problems.
Heart Attack Risk Program (HARP)
The Heart Attack Risk Program (HARP) can help you see where you stand on
each of the key modifiable risk factors. Screenings are free. Results
are available while you wait. Participants are required to fast for 12-hours
prior to testing. The screening includes:
- Triglycerides
- Total Cholesterol
- Blood Sugar
- HDL Cholesterol
- Non-HLD Cholesterol
- LDL Cholesterol
- TC/HDL Ratio
- Bilateral Blood Pressures
- Weight/BMI/Waist Circumference
- Confidential Counseling with a Registered Nurse

CPR
If your friend or loved one went into cardiac arrest, would you know how
to perform life-saving CPR? According to the American Heart Association,
CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or even triple a
cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. Valley Health offers
a number of training options to help you learn CPR.
Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people
who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital”
setting (such as at home, at work or in a public place).
CPR Anytime™ is a program for anyone who wants to learn basic skills
of CPR for adults, children and infants, choking relief and general awareness
of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The program can be used to
train small groups and community organizations. CPR Anytime does not provide
certification in CPR.
For those wishing to earn CPR certification, Heartsaver CPR AED is an instructor-led
course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how
to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants.
