Valley Health Providers Give Back July 30, 2019 This July, Valley Health Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Family Medicine | Mt. Jackson providers Jennifer Cunningham, MD and nurse practitioner, Skyler Sharp, set aside their afternoon to conduct physicals for local students. The afternoon was coordinated by Amanda Palmer, the Director of Operations at the Shenandoah Free and Dental Clinics and Matthew Hiserman, the Athletic Director at Strasburg High School. Held at Central High School in Woodstock, Virginia, Dr. Cunningham and Skyler performed 138 sports physicals in 5 hours. They also presented an envelope with $1,381.00 to Amanda Palmer, Director of Operations at the Shenandoah Free and Dental Clinics. This money was collected while performing the discounted, $10 physicals. As a clinic that focuses on serving low-income underserved patients, the money that was donated will be applied to the clinics medical and dental services. This will help further the mission to offer healthcare services to Shenandoah County residents who are uninsured or underinsured. For more information on the Shenandoah Free and Dental Clinic please visit their website. Reflecting on the event, Skylar shared, “setting aside time to offer a discounted medical service, such as these physicals, was fulfilling in so many ways”. She added that “supporting the community by supporting local organizations” makes her extremely happy. Both Dr. Cunningham and Skyler had participated in these community health offerings in years’ prior. They are looking forward to continuing to serve their community in the near future.
