Winchester Medical Center’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab has been
accredited by the American College of Cardiology, the national leader
in cardiovascular credentialing, accreditation and education. Winchester
Medical Center (WMC) is the first site in Virginia and fifth in the U.S.
to successfully complete the ACC’s new accreditation process for
its cardiac cath lab.
“We are excited to be among the very first hospitals to pursue and
receive this nod of approval from the American College of Cardiology,”
said Grady W. (Skip) Philips, III, Valley Health System Senior Vice President
and President of Winchester Medical Center. “ACC accreditation is
further affirmation that our staff has proven capabilities to treat patients
in a safe manner, following best practices, to ensure the best possible
outcomes.”
WMC operates six cardiac catheterization rooms dedicated to coronary intervention,
cardiac devices, electrophysiology procedures and hybrid procedures including
complex coronary intervention, aortic valve replacement and mitral valve
interventions. In 2016, the WMC Cardiac Catheterization Lab completed
more than 7,000 procedures.
“ACC accreditation is a prestigious thumbs up for our program,”
said interventional cardiologist Neal S. Gaither, MD, medical director
of the WMC Cardiac Cath Lab. “Our lab has been in continuous operation
since 1979, with several cardiologists performing interventional procedures
for 20 or more years. As cardiology has evolved to include diagnostic
and interventional treatment options, our team has grown and diversified,
offering advanced care with an unparalleled focus on our patients’
quality of life. I’m proud to be part of this essential regional
service.”
Winchester Medical Center has been an accredited Chest Pain Center since
2006, a distinction that relies heavily on the expeditious care of patients
with heart attack, from the field to ambulance to Emergency Department
to Cath Lab.
